  • The light fitting should not contribute to food contamination.
  • Fittings should be recessed or surface mounted in ceilings and should have a sealed unit to prevent dust from falling from the fitting.
  • Suspended light fitting will collect dust and become a source of contamination.
  • Properly designed diffusers should be installed to assist with even distribution of light.

Light fittings for the living room.

The idea to have four different types of light fitting installed in your living room,is to help you choose the mood of the room. You can easily create the feel of your ling room by choosing which light fitting you switch on.For instance when you want your living room to be very bright, you can switch on all the lights in the living room.

If you want less light, you can switch off all the other lights and either switch on the chandelier or the wall lights.

Lighting for the bedroom.

A bedroom is a place where you take yourself when you want to rest. Therefore it is required that you take extra care when choosing lights for the bedroom. In the first place, the light you install in the bedroom should promote the atmosphere of rest and tranquillity.

In most cases you will require a light fitting that gives you general lighting, that allows you to perform tasks like cleaning the room, making your bed and many more general tasks. General lighting can be achieved by center ceiling lights.

At times you might want to read a book or novel in your bedroom, you can install table lamps or low hanging pendant lights for this task. Wall scones can be used as task lights in the bedroom. When you have art paintings or decorative frames in your bedroom ,you can use accent light fittings to brighten them.

Lighting for the bathroom

A bathroom is an area that is quite sensitive when i comes to the selection of light fitting. Why am I saying that a bathroom is sensitive.I am saying so because a bathroom is prone to water splashes .when installing light fittings, you should take this into consideration. You know very well that water and electricity don’t go together.

For this reason, you must consider light fittings that are IP rated(Ingress Protection). For you to have a better choice of a proper light fitting for your bathroom, you must consider buying a light fitting that has an IP rating above IP 44.

Security lights.

What are security lights? These are lights that you use to light up exterior areas or outdoors of your home. To put it in simple terms, these are lights that you install or mount outside your house.

Types of security lights.

When I say types of security lights ,I refer to the make or category of light fittings .For easy understanding,I will limit this discussion to

  1. Bulkheads or wall lights. These are lights that you install on walls.
  2. Pole mounted lights. You mount these fittings mostly in streets. Street pole mounted lights.
  3. Decorative outdoor lights. These are lights that you install in the walkways, gardens for the sole purposes of decorating your walkways and gardens.

What to consider when buying light fitting for your home.

All in all light fittings should be chosen because they meet the conditions of the room. Now that you know that light fittings are bought to perform a specific task in a room, You should take your time when selecting your light fittings.

Learn to ask a lot of questions. especially when you are shopping the light fittings for the kitchen and bathroom. For the bathroom, you should insist on getting light fittings that are waterproof and have IP protection higher than IP44. The latest advances in technology have enabled us to have light fittings that you can install above the shower. This is done that you still have enough light even when you are taking a shower.

Kitchen lights, you should buy fittings that do not easily accumulate dust. The reason is simple, the kitchen is a place where meals are prepared. Therefore extra care must be taken in choosing fitting for the kitchen. This is done to prevent food contamination due to dust or debris coming from light fittings.
